India...2019

If NDA wins in 2019 parliamentary election, it is certain that the Present Prime Minister, Sh Narendra Modi will again be sworn in as Prime Minister. What if NDA loses though as of now, chances are very unlikely, who will be the prime minister?  Possible names could be;

1, Rahul Gandhi -This posibility is very unlikely as of today, the gathbandhan parties are getting disillusioned by his capability to lead &  attract votes. Moreover, his own party men, though not expressing openly loosing the trust in him to lead. He still has to evolve a lot as a true people's leader.

2. Sonia Gandhi- Not possible due to the same reason as in 2004 when she could not become prime minister. More over Congress is very unlikely to return with a major block of MPs to be in commanding position. The Congress is also getting exposed more and more as it is sending  confusing signals to voters  with regular displays of negative politics and the legacy of major scams still haunting.

3. Nitish Kumar- He has ruled out that he could be the PM candidate of the gathbandhan. However, if he reverses his decision, which is possible in politics, his present precarious position in Bihar is closing his gaps with BJP and the gathbandhan is likely to be broken. Consequently, he may run the Bihar government with outside or inside support of BJP and would be happy to be the king of Bihar.  Otherwise also, with a view to maintain his clean image as sushan babu, he may not like to side with corrupt parties again at national level after his bitter experiment in Bihar.

4. Mulayam Singh Yadav- The SP is dividend and may return in 2019 with only fever seats.

5. Lalu Yadav- Even Bihar people may reject RJD after recent corruption charges and CBI cases. Lalu himself can't fight elections for eleven years after his conviction in chaara ghotala.

6. Mayavati- Her position will possibly be
worst than SP in U P and her chances are ruled out.

7. Mamta Bannerjee- Her position in WB is thinning out. BJP may make major inroads in WB and as such it is very less likely that she can rise to top position to dominate national politics.

8.Navin Patnaik- He has confined himself to Odisha and not visible and active at  national level.

9. Arvind Kejriwal- He has totally lost his credibility and will be rejected by people and political parties as well.

10. The biggest challenge to the gathbandhan, if it remains united, there will be strong fights for top job and infighting may continue even after installation of one of them, if they could, for the top job.  This scenario will throw a major disaster to the nation.

These are possible scenario based todays political  signals. Summarily, if everything goes well for NDA which is the clear visible picture based on the popularity of Modi today, he stands  very favourably to lead India for another five years after 2019.

However, as politics being a game of impossible making possible, any thing can happen in 2019.

India has to choose only the best course for itself.

Programming of Mind

It has been experienced by many people that when they face sudden outside threat, they usually express their reaction in their mother tongue.  The reason behind this is their sub-conscious mind. The mind is programmed in their mother tongue and therefore the sudden reaction comes naturally in their mother tongue. This is the natural power of sub-conscious mind. It has been also observed by many people when they speak in other languages, not their mother tongue, they generally first think in their mother tongue and then express their feelings in the language of their choice. The reason is that the sub-conscious mind is more powerful than the conscious state of mind.

Is it possible to re-program the sub-conscious mind to change your natural abilities? Yes! It is possible to do that by constant practice. Psychologists and thinkers have concluded that the sub-conscious mind can be reprogrammed and best way to do it is by contemplation. The sub-conscious mind is at work all the twenty four hours of the day irrespective of whether you are awake or not. When you are awake, the daily activities you perform also leave impressions on the sub-conscious mind and it alters it accordingly. However, the power of altering your sub-conscious mind is not at its peak when you are awake and busy in normal work. The power of altering the sub-conscious mind is at its peak only when you naturally approach towards the sub-conscious level. How to enter the   sub-conscious level of mind? As told earlier, you cannot do this efficiently when you are fully awake and busy in your normal activities. The best time to enter the sub-conscious level of mind is just before falling asleep.  As you go to sleep, the mind is gradually and automatically withdrawn from the conscious state and moves towards sub-conscious state. This is the best time to re-program the mind with desired suggestions.

While going to bed, lie down with face upwards. Close your eyes, breathe slowly, suggest to the mind that you are calm, peaceful and joyful. Feel the positive energy entering into your whole being. Within few moments you will be calm and peaceful. Now, focus your mind on the object of your desire and contemplate that you are on the path to reach your object of desire. Suggest the mind with positive energy that you can achieve whatever you desire, success, name, fame, money, power, position and whatever you desire. Visualize that you have already become what you desire. Remember, not to allow negative thoughts to enter the mind as that will leave negative impact on sub-conscious mind and drag your energy out. Even if negative thoughts appear, just ignore, turn them aside and concentrate with positive thoughts on your object of desire. You have to continue in this state till you fall asleep which will be normally five to ten minutes. But these five to ten minutes are most important in your life. The thoughts and suggestions will continue to work for you while you are asleep too. The thought process and energy of positive suggestions to the mind attract the positive energy in the universe and get strengthened with it. The universal positive energy starts working for you and the sub-conscious mind gradually become so powerful that the suggestions given to it in sub-conscious state of mind becomes a reality. You are near to your success, name, fame, money, power and position. In fact, you become what your mind suggests.

I have had personal experience of tuning and re-programming of the mind by the above method. During exam days of my school and college, I used to contemplate before falling asleep about writing my exam successfully. With calm and peaceful mind, I even used to visualize the questions which are likely to appear in question papers and could see the pages of my books where the answers are explained. The next morning I could see myself some of the same questions appearing in the examination and I am answering them successfully. I used to suggest my mind that I am the topper in the examinations and that used to come true. Don’t mistake it that I could get the success in examinations simply by visualizing but this was backed by constant hard work with full honesty and sincerity. That is required otherwise it becomes day dreaming.

The Indian Politics of Dynasties

If we analyze Indian political spectrum after independence, we find it is greatly riddled with dynastic politics. After achieving independence, India became a democracy, a republic where all its citizens are equal and nobody is greater or smaller than none. However, this democratic spirit was never preserved and allowed in true sense to flourish in Independent India by the sheer hunger and lust for power, money and other perks coming free with it. The brilliant example of the dynastic politics is the Nehru Gandhi family, the so called but wrongly called, the first family of the nation.  In democratic India, there is none as the first family or the last family as every individual and every family is equal in front of law and Indian Constitution. No doubt, Nehru & Indira Gandhi had greatly contributed in evolving India as a nation but the legacy also has adversely affected rise of true inner party democracy and in the governments too. Nehru, Indira, Rajiv, Sonia, Rahul and even Priyanka appearing on the scene occasionally, all belong to the family and all enjoyed a solid grip over  their party as well as their governments. Few exceptions cannot prove otherwise as everybody knows what happened to Late Sitaram Kesri who was party president for a brief period. The well crafted arrangement of dynastic politics suits the rest of members of the Congress party as they expect to enjoy power when glued to the family, scattered otherwise they consider themselves incapable to survive.

The perpetual dynastic politics of the Nehru-Gandhi family has induced the similar trend in other political parties too. The Yadavs of Samajwadi party in Uttar Pradesh, another Yadavs of Rashtriya Janta Dal in Bihar, Badals of Akali Dal in Punjab, Pawar-Sule of NCP in Maharashtra, Thackerays of Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, Karunanidhi family in Tamilnadu and Abdullah & Muftis  in Jammu & Kashmir are some of the other examples of dynastic politics. These examples are at bigger scales but there are numerous dynastic politics at local levels where preference in seat allocation and other matters is given to the members of dynasties. In BJP, this phenomenon is not visible very much at national level with few exceptions, (though incomparable with the Nehru Gandhi dynasty) like Anurag Thakur, being the son of former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal, Varun Gandhi, the son of Maneka Gandhi, Poonam Mahajan, the daughter of late Pramod Mahajan, Jayant Sinha, son of former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha and others at state and local levels. The NDA’s two Prime Ministers Atal Behari Bajpai and Narendra Modi do not belong to any family and similarly, the present and previous BJP party presidents too do not have legacies of any family. Hence, BJP appears to be much better placed as a Democratic Party with much lesser dynastic legacies.

In a democracy, the problem is not with the dynastic politics if the merit is given due weightage in party functions and seat allocations. A mere dynastic criterion is the main problem in democracy as merit gets suppressed and incompetency rules. As a result, most of the political parties do not observe internal democracy and do not conduct internal democratic elections. Consequently, the rule of dynasties becomes a perpetually accepted norms and nobody within the party dare to challenge the families. This tendency accelerates the culture of sycophancy and it does not allow members to raise their genuine concerns against the family high commands. The democracy loses its true meaning and only the master and slave relationship exists in the party functioning.

The dynastic politics is a self preserving effort by the families. The greed of power and wealth becomes the main focus of the parties whereas the development of nation and its people takes a back seat. Consequently, the sixty five years of dynastic politics has not allowed a true democracy to evolve in India.  Sycophancy has become the order of the day. The rule of British Empire has been replaced by the first, second and likes of third, fourth families and common man is left looking towards Mai-Baap governments. The nation has suffered and as a consequence, the system has not allowed the people to become self reliant but made them habitual to beg for freebies. This must change and change without further delays else the poison of dynastic politics will kill the democracy.

The people of India must remember that nobody is greater than the Nation, not even Gandhis, Modis, Yadavs and the rests.

To Whom does the Indian Army belong?

It has become a political fashion of many opposition leaders in India to defame Indian Army on some pretext or other. The Indian Army is engaged in worst kind of battle at the front and within Jammu & Kashmir in protecting integrity and sovereignty of the country. While we sleep comfortably at our houses, the army personnel are keeping a constant vigil day and night over terrorist attacks and infiltration from across the border. The army personnel are prepared to sacrifice their lives without a second thought to defend the nation. They are not doing it for money. They are doing it as they consider it as their supreme duty to their motherland.

And many politicians do not have slight hesitations in projecting Indian army in bad taste. The derogatory remarks made by few leaders of opposition parties in recent times are very unfortunate and sickening.  The former Lok Sabha MP and Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit has said that the Army chief, General Bipin Rawat was making public statements like a “sadak ka gunda” though he later apologized and withdrew his remarks. Another leader and academician Partha Chatterjee said that in Kashmir, India is witnessing Its General Dyer Moment. Going further, CPM leader, Prakash Karat said that the Indian Army has let down the high professional standards of the army and further added that the army itself will suffer irreparable damage. There are many more irresponsible undesirable comments worth not mentioning. Seeing this trend in the country, the Human rights Organization has criticized the Indian Army for awarding a commendation to one of its officers who used a civilian as a human shield in Kashmir.

The opposition’s political opponent is Modi government and therefore there is no problem if they oppose Modi government’s policies. Indian army belongs to 1.25 billion of Indian people and its duty, is to fight for the defense of every inch of Indian land and every Indian. It is the dharma Yudh, dutiful action of the army to defend the nation and its citizen. Raising a finger at the army is sheer irresponsible act and must be stopped. Our politicians are expected to act in a responsible way as they represent 1.25 billion Indian people and should not stoop too low to play worst kind of politics involving the Army.

His Master's Voice

Dr Manmohan Singh's absence at the GST launching program at the Parliament was quite puzzling. Dr. Manmohan Singh was the country's Prime Minister for ten years. I repeat, he was the Prime Minister of the country and not of the Congress party alone. Like, the President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee is the President of the country though he was a Congress/UPA candidate for Presidentship before election, he graced the occasion yesterday night. Shri H D Deve Gowda, the other former Prime Minister was gracefully present in the GST launching program though he said once that he will leave Karnataka if Modi becomes prime minister. Shri Atal Behari, another former Prime Minister could not be present due to health reasons. But, Dr Manmohan Singh has used his great wisdom and registered his absence? Is it simply because His Master's Voice  did not permit  him.  Dr. Manmohan Singh as as prime minister has immense contribution in shaping up the GST and therefore his presence at the launching ceremony would have been shown his gracefulness to the world. At the fagging end of his political career, he should have not cared for His Master's Voice and should have attended the program. But, as it is said 'old habits die hard' he could not gether enough courage to defy the Voice and only acted under his (in)famous political compulsions.

The boycott is in fact his personal loss, leaving apart the loss of Congress party.

It is Prime Minister, Modi's magnanimity and greatness that he honoured all those who have contributed in shaping GST and invited all key persons to  grace the launching ceremony irrespective of their belongingness to the political outfits. The absentees have only shown there meanness and played low level of politics.

India Awakes to GST

India today awakes to the new indirect tax regime with introduction of General Goods and service Tax (GST). It is another disruption in independent India in recent month after demonetization and likewise, it is a good disruption for the economic growth of the country and making life easier for its people.

In management terms, disruption is usually considered as an effective strategy to bring a major change in the way things are done. The old ways are out and new ways in.

When a disruption occurs, we have to unlearn the old ways of life and learn new ways.

Humanity also constantly evolves and gives rise better ways to make life and society more purposeful, easy and enjoyable even at the cost of some pain during the change.

While evolving, the humanity has to take corrective actions during the journey whenever things go wrong. It is inevitable in any system.

The human nature always resists the change. With status quo people feel comfortable. But without change, there can’t be any refinement and progress too.

India's independence in the year 1947 was the biggest disruption in the history. The disruption on one hand resulted in freedom for India from the British rule and on the other hand the region was dissected in two, rather three parts, one part remained India while other two parts, separated by thousands of miles on the west and east of India were given the new identity as a new nation, Pakistan. The disruption caused, riots, killings and migration of people from one nation to other based on religious identity. The havoc resulted in killing of more than a million people and displacing millions and millions from their homeland. Indian nation still moved ahead and today it is a one of the biggest democracy and fastest growing economy. Those faulted post disruption in the journey are still trying to evolve as a democracy even after losing the eastern part in the process.

IT and automation was a major disruptor when technology started replacing man. It is still threatening the mankind but the humanity is moving ahead while reaping rich benefits of the change.

The recent demonetized of Rs. 500 & Rs 1000 notes and re-monetization was another disruption in India. The nation recovered and recovered well from it. The move is leading in big ways to wiping out majority of black money, digitization of transactions, transparency, widening the tax base and better tax compliance and many benefits are still under way.

Goods and Service Tax or GST is considered as one of the biggest fiscal reform in India after the independence which is being launched from midnight of 30th June, 2017. It is again a major disruptor of the old ways in Independent India. All business, large or small will be impacted by GST. The GST law, a constitution amendment bill has been passed by the parliament and all state governments (except J&K) and the GST rates have been finalized by the GST council represented by all states. The launch of ONE NATION ONE TAX will certainly cause a disruption for some time but ultimately benefit the consumers as well as the economy. This has also helped in economic integration of  the centre and states by having a common tax base and sharing it.

Let us see what GST is and what are the advantages and disadvantages.

GST is a value added indirect tax on goods and services. It will replace all indirect state and central taxes by one uniform tax throughout the nation.

What are advantages of GST:

·       It reduces number of taxes to one tax. It will result in simpler tax environment.
·       India will emerge as a common market with One Nation One Tax philosophy.
·       GST is a transparent tax system.
·   It will help to build corruption free tax administration due to digitization and integration of entire process.
·       Due to lower burden of taxes on the manufacturing sector, the manufacturing costs will reduce; hence prices of consumer goods are likely to come down.
·       The increased production will lead to more job opportunities in the long run. But, this can happen only if consumers actually get cheaper goods.
·       It will have no cost to registered retailers and therefore, there will be no hidden taxes and the cost of doing business will be lower.
·       Cost of many essential items is expected to come down and this will increase the consumption.
·       Tax evasion is set to drop due to digitization.
·       Checks at state borders will stop freeing the man power involved and movement of goods will be faster eliminating wastage of fuel at the boarders and lesser pollution.

Benefits for common man:

·       Zero rated items : Food grains used by common people. This includes unpacked food grains, fresh vegetables and fruits, unbranded atta, maida, besan, gur, milk, eggs, curd, lassi, unpacked paneer, unbranded natural honey, palmyra jaggery, salt, fresh meat, fish, chicken, butter milk, cereal grains.
·       5% Rate : Items of mass consumption including essential commodities will have low tax incidence. This includes items like Sugar, tea, roasted coffee beans, edible oils, cream, skimmed milk powder, milk food for babies, packed paneer, frozen vegetables, cashew nuts, spices, pizza bread, rusk, sabudana, Raisin, fish fillet, packaged food items
·       12 per cent rates: Butter, ghee, almonds, fruit juice, packed coconut water, preparations of vegetables, fruits, nuts or other parts of plants including pickle, murabba, chutney, jam, jelly, bhujia, namkeen, fruit juices, frozen meat products, dry fruits in packaged form, animal fat and sausage.
·       18 per cent rates: Biscuits (all categories), flavoured refined sugar, pastries and cakes, preserved vegetables, soups, ice cream, instant food mixes, pasta, corn flakes, curry paste, mayonnaise and salad dressings, mixed condiments and mixed seasonings.
·      28% Rate : White goods like Air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators,  soaps and shampoos etc. that were taxed at 30-31% shall be now taxed at 28%. Also includes chewing gum, molasses, chocolate not containing cocoa, waffles and wafers coated with chocolate.
What are the disadvantages of GST:

·       Experts believe that it will impact real estate business negatively
·       Prices of some item will go more as they have been clubbed with higher tax slabs than present. Items like garments, clothing, air fare and aviation industry
·       Adoption and migration to the new tax system will have some hick ups.

Shortcomings in GST:

·       Some items like petrol, diesel and liquor are presently excluded from the GST list. Therefore, these items will continue to be marketed at different prices all over the country at higher tax rates. The states and central will be free to levy taxes as per their convenience and real benefit of GST will not pass to consumers. The government should work towards bringing these items also in the purview of GST.

·       Further, any shortcoming and anomalies, if found in the present GST as India moves ahead with GST need to be rectified time to time.
