My country has really very funny politics and political grand masters!
Having cleared the GST bill by the centre as well as practically all states and having finalised GST rates by the GST panel represented by all states, the opposition parties lead by the Congress, TMC & Left have decided to boycott the GST launch program being presided by the President of India. Moreover, the Congress was the first party who under UPA rule had proposed the GST bill initially though it is said that it was opposed by the then CM of Gujarat, and now Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.
The opposition, especially, the Congress is committing a monumental blunder by missing the historical midnight tryst with GST. They should not forget that many of them have said in the past that the GST is a major game changer for India, ONE NATION ONE TAX. Then why this hypocrisy?
It reminds me of the opposition criticism of some central government ministers who could not make it to attend the recent Eid Iftar party hosted by the President of India. Now the opposition party leaders have themselves decided to boycott the GST launch programme tomorrow midnight chaired by the President.
The credibility of opposition parties is already at the lowest ebb. This GST program boycott is further going to erode it. Wise people always say that too much of anything is bad and so, the too much politics is bad for the opposition as well as nation.
Experts on GST are saying that ultimately the common man is largely going to benifit from the GST whereas it will be very difficult for the traders and businessmen to evade tax. The GST in its present form might not be a 100% perfect but it's a first step and could be fine tuned in future. The boycott by the opposition leader tomorrow is therefore totally unjustified and proves only one agenda point of the opposition that anything which has Modi tag is to be opposed.
Can we so conclude now that the opposition is anti common man?
