Whether the universe, comprising
of time, space and nature is created as a consequence of the Big Bang theory or
is created at the will of God is of little consequence when one explores to
find out the purpose of the human life on this planet earth. There may be life
on other planets too in this universe but the same is of little consequence
right now. The planet earth as of now is supposed to be the unique planet where
all natural conditions are alive to support and sustain various forms of life.
On this planet, there are numerous, immeasurable living creatures in addition
to the plants which too are forms of life. The rivers, lakes, water, mountains,
air, various gases, minerals, metals, clouds etc. are all the components of
planet earth and are responsible for feasibility and sustenance of life. Under
the numerous categories of living organism, the human life is supposed to be the
most advance, most superior form of life which has been bestowed with unique
intelligence and consciousness. This makes it powerful enough compared to all
other forms of life and therefore, the human species are capable of dominating
and controlling the rest of the creatures. It has the mental ability in using
and manipulating the planet earth and its components for personal use as they
wish.
The cycle of evolution of the
mankind from its primitive stage and progression to its present form has also
produced various faiths and belief systems, believers and non believers, religions
and concepts of individual Gods. Rationally speaking, the cycle of this
evolution, from the stone age to the modern age should have lead humanity to a
unifying concept of faith and beliefs as all human beings are similar, created
through the same process of procreation, meeting the same ends, having the
similar blood flowing through their bodies but very sadly produced wide gaps, conflicting
ideaologies of survivals and destroying one another to preserve false notions
of individualistic humanity. As a
result, the humanity has gone through disastrous wars, creation of boundaries, acts
of terrors, mass destruction of societies and innumerable inhuman crimes world
over. To name a few of these disasters in the recent history are;
1. Millions
and millions of people have died as a consequence of World Wars
2. 329
people on board Air India flight 182 from Toronto, Canada to New Delhi died due
to mid air bomb blast in 1985.
3. 257
people killed in Mumbai bomb blast in 1993
4. The
September, 11, 2001 attack at New York twin tower killed approximately 2,993
people, injuring more than 6,000 and destroying property and infrastructure
worth $ 10 billion.
5. 26th
November, 2008 attacks on several places in Mumbai killing more than 100
people.
6. London
Bridge attack on 2nd June, 2017 killing 8 people
7. Manchester
terror attack killing 22 people and injuring 59 others at an Ariana Grande
concert on 22nd May, 2017
….and many more
being killed daily in one part of the world or the other daily due to wars,
terrorist attacks and other crimes.
The heinous crimes and terror
acts taking place everyday do suggest that the humanity is not moving in the
right direction. Is this the purpose of life? Never! The purpose of the life
cannot be to wedge war against each other. In spite of the human advancement in
scientific and other technological area, modern man is not capable of creating
life, creating human beings, creating planet earth and creating the universe.
Then how come he assumes the powers to decide to destroy human life and planet
earth for selfish gains. Even after achieving such selfish temporary gains, has
he achieved the super power to win over his own death? Can he bring back a dead
man back to life? Not yet! Then is he not missing the real purpose of life?
Yes! Of course he is missing the real purpose of life leading to destruction of
his neighbor, the society around and even himself.
What is the ultimate purpose of life?
The real purpose of life is to achieve happiness. The purpose of life is to
achieve an everlasting happiness where there are equal opportunities for everyone
to grow and advance. This cannot a birth right of few. The purpose of life is
to live and let live, enjoy and let enjoy. The purpose of life is to make choices;
choices to not only make one happy but spread happiness to others around. One
can never be happy if his neighbor is unhappy. One’s hunger can never be satisfied
if his neighbor is hungry. The philosophy of happiness is so simple that one
does not need to possess extra ordinary intelligence to be happy and make
others happy. Can we ourselves be happy if our minds are occupied by anger,
jealousy, greed, lust, agitation, irritations and anxieties? Can we do well to
others if our minds are occupied by anger, jealousy, greed, lust, agitation, irritations
and anxieties? Never! To be happy, one must be happy within. To make others
happy, one must be happy within first. Can a fulfillment of one desire make one
happy? It looks so. If one does not have a bicycle, he thinks that he will be
happy if he gets a bicycle. On getting the bicycle, a new desire crops up and
he wants now to have a motor bike. Like this his desires grow spirally and
fulfillment of one desire leads to a new desire and and in the never ending process,
he finds no true happiness.
It’s not a sin or immoral to possess
wealth or materialistic articles. But it is a sin to get these things while
resorting to unfair means and encroaching on the rights of others. To be happy,
one does not need to snatch other’s happiness and make him unhappy. Happiness
comes from within, not from external possessions or ill gotten wealth. The
purpose of life is to find true happiness within. Humanity cannot and can never
achieve happiness by killing one section of the society in acts of crime or
terrors or mass murders or winning over nations.
Let us remember; an eye for an
eye, only ends up in making everybody and the whole world blind.
No purpose of life can be greater than live and let live.
The purpose of life cannot be to kill fellow citizens of this planet. If you do so, you are killing your own existence.
No purpose of life can be greater than live and let live.
The purpose of life cannot be to kill fellow citizens of this planet. If you do so, you are killing your own existence.
Can anybody live life without
having a purpose? Everybody needs a purpose to live. Even to arrange bread and
butter for one’s survival also is a purpose of life for a person suffering from
hunger. For those who have enough of food to survive also need purpose to grow
and be happier. If one want to feed him by snatching from others, that may also
be his purpose but it is a wrong purpose and it will not make him happy even
after feeding himself. His wrong acts will be caught one day and may land him
into jail. It cannot be a true happiness if one kills another in acts of terror
or crime to achieve a misguided purpose of life. Without peace within and
around, one cannot be happy irrespective of wealth or political power one may
possess? One should never forget that destruction leads to destruction, peace
leads to peace and happiness leads to happiness. Therefore, the humanity today
is in dire need of redefining its purpose. The purpose of humanity needs to be
love, peace and happiness. Without imbibing this truth deep into mindset of
every human being, every sect, every nation, and every society, there cannot be
long lasting peace, freedom, love, happiness and co-existence.
This reminds me of the poem
Gitanjali by the Noble Prize Winner, the great Indian philosopher, spiritual thinker,
writer and poet Rabindranath Tagore in which he says;
“Where
the mind is without fear
and the head is held high,
where knowledge is free.
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls.
Where words come out from the depth of truth,
where tireless striving stretches its arms toward perfection.
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost it's way
into the dreary desert sand of dead habit.
Where the mind is led forward by thee
into ever widening thought and action.
In to that heaven of freedom, my father,
LET MY COUNTRY AWAKE!”
and the head is held high,
where knowledge is free.
The humanity today needs to understand truly
the above words of Shri Rabindranath Tagore and rework on its mindset to establish
a perfect world with long lasting Happiness.
