The society has to learn a lot from the honest sensitivity of a class VIII girl, Harpreet Malkat from a village called "Ganda" (गंदा) who rises to write to PM, Shri Narendra Modi for the name change of her village. Her courage leads to a new respectable name "Ajit Nagar" for the village, after the name of the eldest son of revered guru Gobind Singh ji. We salute her for her honest courage and sheer sensitivity.
What is wrong with the word "Ganda"? It means dirty, an absence of cleanliness. The absence of cleanliness can refer to any dirtyness, physical or mental. If one is physically unclean, he/she is called dirty. If he/she wears dirty clothes, he/she is called wearing dirty clothes. If one wears dirty mind and conducts dirty acts, he/she is also called a dirty person. The dirtyness encompasses all morally and ethically impure thinking and acts, all evil conducts like untruthfulness, stealing, injuring & killing, lustful & corrupt acts for money, power & sex, anger, absence of compassion towards all beings, hatred towards fellow citizens, injustice and all other social evils. As a matter of facts, amongst us we have a society with many unclean & corrupt people covering normal citizens, professionals, doctors, engineers, bureaucrats, businessmen, lawyers, bankers, social workers and politicians etc. etc. Are we not ashamed of ourselves of our dirtyness? If we are not then we should. If we don't want to be a person of virtues and remain dirty then we should be prepared to be called the "Ganda", the dirty person by our fellow citizens. The society also must name & shame them.
The society has to learn much from the honest sensitivity of the girl Harpreet by introspection and feel a sense of disgust if we possess and hold any evil thoughts and acts within us. Like her, we have to rise to change the dirty name tags we are carrying with us (even if it is unknown & hidden from the society) and get ourselves purified, reformed & cleaned. If everyone strives for this like the little girl, we can certainly lead to a cleaner and peaceful society.
Remember, the cleanliness is next to Godliness. If you don't remember this, all your pujaas, worships, pilgrimages and prayers are a waste and deceiving self, others and your own Gods.
