Sant Kabir, a 15th
century Indian saint is considered to be one of the greatest poets as well as
mystics ever born in India. He believed that all human beings are equal and God
realization is the ultimate goal of every individual. This philosophy clearly finds
reflections in his poetry, known as “Kabir ke Dohe”..the Kabir’s couplets. His
verses are also found in Sikhism's scripture Adi Granth.
His early life was spent with a Muslim family, but he was strongly influenced
by his teacher, the Hindu bhakti (devotion) leader Ramananda.
Kabir is well known for being very critical of blind faiths and rituals of both Hindus and Muslims. Because of this, he
was threatened by both. However,
when he died, both Hindus and Muslims fought to claim his body but is is
said that nobody could ever find it as it turned into a bunch of flowers. His legacy
survives and continues through the Kabir Panth ("Path of Kabir"), a religious community
of followers of his ideals.
On the importance of labour, Kabir Das
has said;
जिन खोजा तिन पाइया, गहरे पानी पैठ,
मैं बपुरा बूडन डरा, रहा किनारे बैठ।
संत कबीर इस दोहे में श्रम का महत्व बताते हुए कहते है कि जो प्रयत्न करते हैं, वे कुछ न कुछ वैसे ही पा ही लेते हैं जैसे कोई मेहनत करने वाला गोताखोर गहरे पानी में जाता है और कुछ ले कर आता है। लेकिन कुछ बेचारे लोग ऐसे भी होते हैं जो डूबने के भय से किनारे पर ही बैठे रह जाते हैं और कुछ नहीं पाते।
The famous couplet by India Saint Kabir emphasizes the importance of labour. He says; those who strive, achieve something like the one who dives into deep water, returns with something but few who are afraid of drowning sit at the bank without getting anything.
निम्न प्रसिद्ध संस्कृत वेदिक रचना भी जनमानस को यही संदेश देती है ;
उद्यमेन हि सिध्यन्ति कार्याणि न मनोरथैः ।
न हि सुप्तस्य सिंहस्य प्रविशन्ति मुखे मृगाः ॥
उद्यम से हि कार्य सिद्ध होते हैं, नाकि मनोरथों से ।
सोये हुए सिंह के मुख में हरिण स्वतः आकर प्रवेश नही करते ।।
The famous Vedic Scripture in Sanskrit also conveys the same message to mankind;
Work gets accomplished by putting in effort, and certainly not by mere wishful thinking. Deers certainly do not enter a sleeping lion’s mouth.
इसी धारा में आलस्य को मानव शरीर में स्थित सबसे बड़े शत्रु के रुप में दिखाया गया है;
" आलस्यं हि मनुष्याणां शरीरस्थो महारिपु
Laziness is the biggest enemy living inside the human bodies.
किसी कवि की ये पंक्तियाँ भी जीवन में श्रम के महत्व को प्रकट करती हैं और जीवन को गतिशील बनाए रखने के लिए परिश्रम करते रहने का संदेश देत
तुम हो धरती के पुत्र न हिम्मत हारो ,
श्रम की पूँजी से अपना काज सँवारो ,
श्रम की सीपी में ही वैभव पलता है ,
तब स्वाभिमान का दीपक स्वयं ही जलता है ,
मिट जाता है दैन्य स्वयं क्षण में ,
छा जाती है नव दीप्ति धरा के कण में ,
जागो-जागो श्रम से नाता तुम जोड़ो ,
पथ चुनो काम का,आलस का भाव तुम छोड़ो !

From the labour only affluence flourishes
