Congress lost again! And the political grand masters lost it badly!
Congress could have shown magnanimity (unfortunately it does not have) by supporting Ram Nath Kovind for the presidentship atleast in the name of backward caste. This could have earned them some respect from the masses. However, by fielding Meira Kumar, they have displayed their real character of paying lip service to the backwards. Congress could have easily made Kumar presidential candidate last time when they were sure to win but didn't do it for obvious reasons.
And now Meira Kumar is only being used in the political chess game to lose.
Her father, Babu Jagjivan Ram was then considered as a threat to Mrs Indira Gandhi and was therefore consigned to political doghouse during emergency. As a result, he had to live the Congress party and later became deputy PM in Janata Party government.
History also tells that Congress used Babu Jagjivan Ram to counter Dalit icon Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.
Congress now pays lip service to Ambedkar while when he was alive, Congress did not allow him to win Lok Sabha elections in 2952 from Bombay and bi- election in 1054 from Bhandara by fielding Congress candidates against him.
Ambedkar, a great nationalist was also against article 370 giving special status to Jammu & Kashmir but Nehru bypassed him and got it passed. Ambedkar also supported uniform civil code in the country but had to resign from the cabinet in 1951 when parliament stalled his draft on Hindu Code Bill.
India would have been much better placed and stronger today if Ambedkar's views on article 370 and uniform civil code were accepted by Nehru.
Why can't the modern India of 2017 have a classless society? Why politics is played again & again in the name of dalits, mahadalits, backwards and mahabackwards? Even for the highest constitutional post of president of the country, the dalit card is considered politically correct. Is this the India we deserve which our nation builders have given to the country? Feel sad!
