To Whom does the Indian Army belong?

It has become a political fashion of many opposition leaders in India to defame Indian Army on some pretext or other. The Indian Army is engaged in worst kind of battle at the front and within Jammu & Kashmir in protecting integrity and sovereignty of the country. While we sleep comfortably at our houses, the army personnel are keeping a constant vigil day and night over terrorist attacks and infiltration from across the border. The army personnel are prepared to sacrifice their lives without a second thought to defend the nation. They are not doing it for money. They are doing it as they consider it as their supreme duty to their motherland.

And many politicians do not have slight hesitations in projecting Indian army in bad taste. The derogatory remarks made by few leaders of opposition parties in recent times are very unfortunate and sickening.  The former Lok Sabha MP and Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit has said that the Army chief, General Bipin Rawat was making public statements like a “sadak ka gunda” though he later apologized and withdrew his remarks. Another leader and academician Partha Chatterjee said that in Kashmir, India is witnessing Its General Dyer Moment. Going further, CPM leader, Prakash Karat said that the Indian Army has let down the high professional standards of the army and further added that the army itself will suffer irreparable damage. There are many more irresponsible undesirable comments worth not mentioning. Seeing this trend in the country, the Human rights Organization has criticized the Indian Army for awarding a commendation to one of its officers who used a civilian as a human shield in Kashmir.

The opposition’s political opponent is Modi government and therefore there is no problem if they oppose Modi government’s policies. Indian army belongs to 1.25 billion of Indian people and its duty, is to fight for the defense of every inch of Indian land and every Indian. It is the dharma Yudh, dutiful action of the army to defend the nation and its citizen. Raising a finger at the army is sheer irresponsible act and must be stopped. Our politicians are expected to act in a responsible way as they represent 1.25 billion Indian people and should not stoop too low to play worst kind of politics involving the Army.
