Indian Politics -A Game of Chess

Although BJP lead by PM, Modi and party president Amit Shah, grabbed a massive victory winning 325 seats out of 403 in UP, the states of Punjab, Goa & Manipur have thrown a pleasant and unexpected surprise for the grand old (?) Congress party. Punjab is a clear majority for Congress while  in  Goa & Manipur they won the largest numbers of seats giving them a chance to form governments with the support of smaller parties. In Goa, they won 17 seats while BJP are at 13, AAP at zero (39 candidates out of 40 forfeiting their security deposits), and other smaller parties winning 10 seats. Congress could have formed the government in Goa with the help of additional 4 elected MLA as 21 becomes a majority in the 40 seat assembly. In Manipur where total seats are 60, Congress won 28 seats,  BJP 21, NPF 4 and others 7. In Manipur, Congress just needed support of additional 3 MLAs to form government. However, though luck being on their side, Congress kept snoring at the most critical time  and lost in winning the required support of additional MLAs in both Goa & Manipur. They allowed the victory to slip from their hands and lost to BJP who could forge alliance with the support of additional MLAs they needed to form government. Congress has played the similar tricks in the past when they lacked necessary strength and could have played it again this time too to form governments in both the states but allowed BJP to play the game. There is a saying in Hindi " चौबेजी छब्बेजी बनने चले थे पर दुबेजी ही रह गए, which literally translates to " Mr. Four went to become Mr. Six but returns becoming Mr. Two only". Now they are crying over spilt milk.

Indian Politics is a game of Chess, certainly in modern times. In the game of chess, the player who takes the first smart move, wins the games and the powerful and mighty opponent looses if he/she fails to take a right move at a right time. Congress has landed in a miserable situation today in both the states of Goa & Manipur for which the top leadership is to take the entirely blame. The state of  UP which sent Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira, Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to parliament could only win seven seats in 403 seat assembly, a political disaster. They joined the opponent SP and played a role of  weaker partner. The famous slogan "यह साथ हमें पसंद है-We like this togetherness" coined by UP CM Akhilesh Yadav & Rahul Gandhi combine to fight election against BJP has become a joke turning the slogan to "यह सात हमें पसंद है- We like this seven"  (Congress could win only seven seats). However, the leaders in the grand old party of "Yes-Men" hardly have courage to go for a truthful introspection and fix responsibilities. Punjab win is a consolation but the credit for the win goes to Captain Amrinder Singh and not to central leadership. Congress leader Kamal Nath blamed the local leadership for the debacle in forming the government in Goa and Manipur while not pointing out a single finger at top leadership. Mayavati, Rahul Gandhi & Kejriwal blame on EVMs for their defeat in UP. They are crying like खिसियानी बिल्ली खंभा नोचे- in English  'The Angry Cat Scratches The Pillar;  Anger Is Often Vented On One Not Responsible'. Rahul Gandhi, the scion of Gandhi family & party vice president too is not willing to introspect truthfully and blames regional leaders for failured. He is also most unlikely to vacate the place he occupies in favour of experienced Congress man, though they have many (but possess spoiled habits of becoming yes-men and losing the flighting spirit). The dynasty too has no culture of trusting anybody out side the family and afraid of loosing the party rein . With this limitation of the mind set of the family and a historical tradition of sycophants (yes-men) continuing, the day seems not very far when India can witness a Congress Mukt (Congress less) Bharat.

It could be a bad day for India as you need a strong opposition for functioning of a healthy democracy. Because power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
