Who Killed Her Father?

The debate on a video of a college going girl, a martyr’s daughter in New Delhi that has gone viral on social media is making people more and more perplexed with each passing day. Some people are accusing her of supporting anti national forces while others claim that she is a courageous girl who is only talking of peace between India and Pakistan. In her video, she is seen displaying few placards which read; “PAKISTAN DID NOT KILL MY DAD, WAR KILLED HIM, and I FIGHT FOR PEACE BETWEEN INDIA AND PAKISTAN” and few more. The girl’s father, as a captain in Indian army was martyred in Indo-Pak Kargil war in 1999 when she was two years old. The girl has been trolled on social media by many famous personalities with twits like; “I didn’t score two triple century, my bat did-Verendra Sehwag, If Pakistan did not kill our soldiers then who did? - Olympic bronze medalist Yogeshwar Dutt, If a hardly literate player or a wrestler troll a pacifist daughter of a martyr its understandable but whats wrong with some educated folks- Javed Akhtar, PLEASE DON'T CALL OUR PLAYERS ILLITERATE. You're a champion in your field & they are champions in their own field. India is proud of them!- India’s Sports Minister, Mr Vijay Goel, यहाँ उम्र बीत गयी देश को मेडल दिलाने में, और वो एक पल नहीं लगाते अनपढ़ बताने में। यहाँ उम्र बीत गयी देश को मेडल दिलाने में, और वो एक पल नहीं लगाते अनपढ़ बताने में। यहाँ उम्र बीत गयी देश को मेडल दिलाने में, और वो एक पल नहीं लगाते अनपढ़ बताने में। (we spend the entire life in winning medals and you declare  us illiterate in one moment) – Mahavir Phogat, father of wrestler sisters Geeta and Babita etc. Many other twits like “ Godse did not kill Gandhi, his gun did it” are also surfacing.

If Gurmehar’s video is taken at its face value, she is absolutely right as the war is never a solution to any conflict; rather it is an epidemic which spreads its wings in very disastrous forms for a long time. The world history has proved this time and again. And, any modern war today can lead to catastrophic destruction of millions and millions of human lives, properties and environment and further lead to human hunger, suffering, spread of disease and mass displacement of people. The war continues to have lethal effects for future generations too. Under this perspective her statement is full of wisdom and needs appreciation by all. However, as Eleanor Roosevelt, the famous American politician, diplomat, activist and first lady of USA (wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1933-45) said; “It isn't enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn't enough to believe in it. One must work at it”. What Eleanor Roosevelt is saying that one has to BELIEVE in peace and also WORK for peace, nothing else; meaning that one should have true intention of peace. If you lack a true intention, how sweet your talks may be, you are not a peace lover and may act contrary to what you preach.

Now let us analyze the statement of the girl; “PAKISTAN DID NOT KILL MY DAD, WAR KILLED HIM,” and also analyze how Pakistan demonstrated its intention right from its inception when it was carved out as a separate country from India in Aug. 1947. The dark days of bloodshed of approximately two million people, a consequence of partition were still fresh when Pakistan invaded India in Oct. 1947 by sending tribal forces supported by Pakistan army into northern Kashmir. This conflict between Indian and Pakistan ended with a cease fire at the intervention of UN and as a result, Pakistan gained control of about one third of the area of Kashimr which they never vacated as called for. Two third of Kashmir remained with India and the conditions of UN resolutions were never fulfilled by Pakistan to vacate the area under Pakisan’s occupation. Since then Pakistan has engaged India in three major wars (1965, 1971 and 1999) and continues relentlessly its covert and overt policy of sponsoring cross boarder terror attacks. As per a report, there have been 47,234 terror attacks on India between 1998 and 2017 and no less than 14,743 Indian civilians have been killed and 6,276 security personnel were martyred. India is constantly facing terrorists’ infiltration and frequent skirmish at the border from Pakistan side killing many Indian civilian populations. The heinous incidence like Mumbai attack in Nov. 2008 killed around 172 people. The attacks at Pathankot airbase in Jan. 2016 and Uri Military base in Sept. 2016 have martyred many Indian soldiers. The masterminds of the Mumbai attack and many other terror attacks are sitting comfortably under state protection in Pakistan and are constantly spilling venom against India. The terror training camps to target India are flourishing across the Indian borders and Pakistan continues its policies to support terror element threatening India’s sovereignty and integrity. India’s repeated peace affords by Prime Minister A B Vajpayee and Prime Minister Modi to reach Pakistan PMs were exchanged by renewed and escalated attacks on India.  Under this scenario, it is clear that the intention of Pakistan does not favor a dialogue and peace between the two neighbors. Knowing this fact very well, the college girl’s statement that “PAKISTAN DID NOT KILL MY DAD, WAR KILLED HIM” is not true reflection of the scenario. It is Pakistan’s intention of dispatching infiltrators across the border to destabilize India is not allowing the return of peace and therefore; it is Pakistan which is responsible for killing of her father.

It has also come to light that the girl was used by some politicians to create disturbance and chaos in certain college campus in Delhi University to defame and destabilize the Modi government especially at a time when some important state elections are ongoing in India. And hence again, her true intention appears to be guided by politics and she has only acted as a tool in the hands of some political parties. It is becoming more and more evident that she lacks intention for peace but was only a part of a political gameplan. As she seems to lacks a true intention, her sweet talks for peace are not really trustworthy and as seen, since the resultant furor thereafter refuse to die, she is not a true peace lover and is only acting  contrary to what she preaches.
